Delta Elementary Inclusive Playground
Delta Elementary Inclusive Playground Becomes a National Demonstration Site for Inclusive Play
Bastrop, Louisiana — A Model for Accessible Outdoor Fun
Struthers Recreation is proud to announce the completion of an innovative, inclusive playground at Delta Elementary School in Bastrop, Louisiana. This new space not only brings joy to students and families—it has also been nationally recognized as a National Demonstration Site (NDS) for Inclusive Play.
Designed in partnership with GameTime, this playground reflects the school’s commitment to equity and inclusion, ensuring children of all abilities can learn, play, and grow together.
A Playground Where Everyone Belongs
From the ground up, this project focused on removing barriers to play. The design includes features that support physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and sensory development, making sure that every child can confidently navigate and enjoy the space.
Highlights of the playground include:
Accessible play structures with ramped access and transfer points
Ground-level activities that invite collaborative play
Sensory-rich elements such as interactive panels and music play areas
Comfortable seating and shade and inclusive social areas
These features not only meet ADA standards but go beyond compliance, creating a truly welcoming environment for all.
What It Means to Be a National Demonstration Site
The NDS designation, awarded through PlayCore and its network of researchers and advocates, identifies playgrounds that exemplify best practices in inclusive design. As a recognized NDS, Delta Elementary’s playground serves as a model for other communities and schools aiming to foster more equitable access to outdoor play.
Visitors and community leaders are invited to explore the site and see firsthand how inclusive design benefits children of all backgrounds and abilities.
Building Brighter Futures Through Play
Inclusive playgrounds like the one at Delta Elementary help promote empathy, cooperation, and understanding among students. Struthers Recreation is honored to have supported this transformative project, and we applaud the leadership of Delta Elementary and the Morehouse Parish School Board for making inclusive play a priority.
Together, we’re proving that when we design for everyone, we create stronger, healthier communities.
